About: UDI Label Preflight
A barcode can decode successfully and still disagree with the data approved for a label. UDI Label Preflight gives medical-device label teams a focused inspection record for that exact question: what was captured, what was approved, and where do they differ?
What was captured?
Start an inspection for a label proof, product, or work order. Add a reference photo, scan a GS1 DataMatrix on a compatible iPhone, or paste the raw decoded payload. The record preserves the visible raw text, byte length, capture method, control-character evidence, parsed fields, and any unrecognized remainder.
What was approved?
Enter the values authorized for the label. The app compares them field by field with the decoded content and explains Match, Mismatch, Missing in Barcode, Expected Value Not Provided, Invalid Format, or Unsupported results. Each inspection receives an overall Pass, Warning, or Fail with reasons and recommended follow-up.
Which data is covered?
Version 1 recognizes these GS1 Application Identifiers:
- 01: GTIN
- 10: batch or lot
- 11: production date
- 17: expiration date
- 21: serial number
Checks cover the supported structure, GTIN length and check digit, encoded dates, allowed field length and characters, duplicates, separators, truncation, and unparsed data. Unsupported content is displayed rather than silently discarded.
What can be handed to a reviewer?
Generate a local PDF containing available photo and raw-capture evidence, the approved and decoded values, comparisons, issues, notes, timestamps, and app and rule versions. Saved inspections can be reopened, have their PDF regenerated, be shared, or be deleted from local history.
UDI Label Preflight requires no account for its core workflow and does not send inspection records to a YunFan Labs service.
Scope matters: this is a data-syntax and approved-value preflight tool. It does not measure symbol print quality, contrast, dimensions, or quiet zones; replace an ISO-compliant barcode verifier; or provide GS1, FDA, regulatory, or legal certification. It is independent and is not endorsed by GS1 or a regulator.
