Neck and Spine Wellness

Neck and Spine Wellness is an angle measuring app that helps you prevent neck/spinal issues by alerting when your neck angle is at a damaging position.

The human head weighs about 12 pounds. But as the neck bends forward and down, the weight on the cervical spine begins to increase. At a 15-degree angle, this weight is approximately 27 pounds, at 30 degrees it’s 40 pounds, at 45 degrees it’s 49 pounds, and at 60 degrees it’s 60 pounds according to a study on Washington Post by Dr. Ken Hansraj M.D.

Text neck, a term used by physicians to describe the neck/back/spine pain, is caused by looking down at your cell phone, tablet, or other wireless devices at the wrong angle. Our neck and spine are most relaxed when in a neutral position. Stress on the neck causes wear and tear on the spine. This can further cause back and spine related issues like herniated disc or slipped disc.

Text neck very common amongst teenagers and adolescents. Holding a device at chest or waist level is very common while looking down. Its an unconscious habit, which can be changed if reminded constantly while using these devices.

The Neck and Spine Wellness application will provide you with a correct angle that corresponds to pressure that you put on your neck and spine while using these devices at a dangerous level.
