With the help of your device, we will accompany you through an interactive exhibition presenting the history of the castles of Szendrő - from the first mention of the settlement in 1312 to the period of the Upper Castle until the beginning of the 18th century. Szendrő is located in the Cserehát hills, in the Bódva Valley, near the Northern Central Mountains, bordering the Hungarian Great Plain. In the area of ​​Szendrő, there were probably originally three castles at the same time. The medieval fortress certainly stood in the present day center of the settlement. Its remains can still be observed between the houses. Alsóvár was the earliest of the identified castles. Based on the depictions, the known floor plan of Németvár, a fortified fortress surrounded by the branches of Bódva, extended with a hussar castle, can also be observed in today's settlement structure. According to the plans of military engineer Christoforo Stella, the construction of the Upper Castle in the designated area on Castle Hill began in the last decade of the 16th century.
