Mai Sakurajima is the main heroine of the Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai series. Mai Sakurajima is a notable actress/model and a third year at Minegahara High School, the same school as Sakuta Azusagawa.
Mai Sakurajima is an attractive individual with waist-length black hair that has bangs hanging on the left side with a bunny-shaped barrette in the back, blue-purple eyes and a slender, well defined body. Mai Sakurajima's fairly tall for a Japanese girl, standing at 162 (or 165, according to other sources) cm height.

In Mai Sakurajima bunny costume, Mai Sakurajima wears bright black high heels and wraps Mai Sakurajima long slender legs that in translucent black tights. Similar to a black leotard, the outfit highlighted the lines of Mai Sakurajima body, while the chest made a firm, modest valley. White cuffs accented Mai Sakurajima wrists and Mai Sakurajima neck was adorned by a black bowtie.

Mai Sakurajima is often seen in Mai Sakurajima school uniform, which consists of a white collared shirt, red tie, a cream vest, brown shoes, and a blue skirt, with light brown blazer on top that Mai Sakurajima wears unbuttoned. Mai Sakurajima wears translucent black tights with Mai Sakurajima uniform as well. When not being on school, Mai Sakurajima usually wears Mai Sakurajima casual attire. Mai Sakurajima is a serious individual, especially around Sakuta Azusagawa. Mai Sakurajima can be considered as a type B tsundere: Mai Sakurajima isn't harsh by default, but Mai Sakurajima can be easily annoyed and come across as somewhat snappy or violent when Sakuta does or says something lewd. Mai Sakurajima usually responds to Sakuta's openly lewd remarks about Mai Sakurajima by pinching him, slapping him, or stepping on his foot, but can also be flustered just as easily and Mai Sakurajima tsundere act fails. Mai Sakurajima tends to ignore and stuff unpleasant feelings down rather than deal with them. Sakuta often points out that Mai Sakurajima is "dishonest", often lying about Mai Sakurajima feelings. Mai Sakurajima and Sakuta enjoy teasing each other, but despite Mai Sakurajima snarkiness, Mai Sakurajima's pure-hearted and even shy around Sakuta's jokes.

Mai Sakurajima is very sensitive, polite, levelheaded, helpful, and kind. Mai Sakurajima also has a very soft spot for Kaede Azusagawa, Sakuta's younger sister. Mai Sakurajima is also very intelligent, Mai Sakurajima's implied to have very good grades and even helps Sakuta study at one point. Though Mai Sakurajima can be somewhat harsh and strict towards Sakuta at times, and call him a pervert or an idiot, Mai Sakurajima is genuinely affectionate and kind to him as well, and often says that Mai Sakurajima loves him more than he thinks.

Before Mai Sakurajima invisibility was subdued by Sakuta, Mai Sakurajima harbored deep anxiety over the possibility that Mai Sakurajima could be forgotten entirely. Mai Sakurajima was also quite sensitive over the topic of Mai Sakurajima hiatus, as Mai Sakurajima still harbored bitter feelings over the circumstances which caused them; these feelings have now subsided since Mai Sakurajima starting acting at another agency. Because of Mai Sakurajima anxiety, Mai Sakurajima used to be somewhat distrustful and pessimistic, still remaining a very compassionate person.

All in all, although Mai Sakurajima's emotional and sensitive, Mai Sakurajima is a really nice and kind individual. Notable examples include when Mai Sakurajima denounced the hospitalization incident as false for Sakuta's sake, and when Mai Sakurajima gave Kaede a dress both as a gift and to at least spark interest in returning to the outside world.

Mai Sakurajima's also very selfless, sacrificing herself to save Sakuta from being hit by a car, and even becoming Shoko's heart donor. Still, Sakuta manages to get back in time to save Mai Sakurajima.
