Who are the Magi?

Once the end of the year festivities end and the New Year begins, in Spain and several other countries there is still the most important day for all our children, the Three Wise Men. Every year, the Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6.
Tradition tells that the Magi were in charge of going to the Bethlehem portal following a star that indicated the way to see the Baby Jesus, who had just been born, and bring gifts. Upon arrival, these three magicians offered him three gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. For this reason, every year, when Christmas approaches, all the children begin to write their letters to one of the Three Wise Men (or all three): Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar.
In these letters, the children tell the Kings how well they have behaved throughout the previous year and ask them for the gifts they would like to have on January 6. It is assumed that the better the child has behaved during the year, the better the gift he will receive that morning from the Three Kings. But all children know that if they have behaved very badly, they risk receiving a piece of coal.
The Three Wise Men travel by camel every year from the East to visit all the children who have written their letter. When they arrive in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries, after New Year's Eve, the Three Wise Men go through each of the towns on horseback to be able to listen to the requests of the children and receive their letters. On the night of January 5, after having seen the Three Kings Parade in the city, the children run home after having sent the letter to clean their shoes and put them in a good place in the room. Only in this way, the Magi will know who to leave each gift.
As they come from far away and the Kings have a lot of work during the early morning of January 5 to 6, all families have the custom of leaving them a little water, nougat or milk so that they and their camels can recover their strength.
Thus, when the morning of January 6, Three Kings Day, arrives, the children of each house nervously get up earlier than usual to run to the place where they left their shoes and sent the letter and discover what gift they have been given. Their Majesties the Magi from the East. In addition, everyone discovers with joy that there is no more water left and that the nougat has been eaten, a sign that the kings have recovered their strength to return home.
In this way, on Three Kings Day, illusion floods every house and little by little makes everyone know that Christmas is over... until next year when we send the letter again and ask for gifts from the Kings.
