Soybean and marine fish are the main sources of protein in pig, poultry, and fish farming. However, the rise in global
food demand and environmental issues has led to a steep increase in the price of these feeds over the last few
years.
BSF Smart Farm was established with an aim in mind, which is to process high-protein black soldier fly larvae
(Hermetia illucens) into feed ingredients as an alternative to current unsustainable protein supplies.As proved by biology studies, black soldier fly (BSF) does not invade human habitants (house, restaurant, etc.) and
for that reason, it is considered non-pest. BSF has no functioning mouthparts and therefore cannot bite. BSF does
not vector any diseases or feed on waste, meaning it does not transmit infectious agents or interfere with human
food. In fact, BSF larvae consume and convert bio waste into protein-rich biomass which can be used to replace
unstainable protein in traditional diets.
By converting low-value biomass energy to high-quality insect products, BSF fills in the missing link in Vietnamese
and global food supply chains. At its core, BSF Smart Farm strives to maximize the potentials of the harmless
insect by means of BSFL rearing and processing systems. BSF Smart Farm also cooperates with local and global
partners to undertake a wide range of research to give credence to BSF benefits. As a safe insect, BSF can convert
organic waste into animal feed with great efficiency and provide a sustainable source of protein. Besides, the
residue generated by BSF is considered a suitable crop fertilizer.
