What is Aloe Vera?

If there is one plant so strongly associated with health that its usage dates back possibly millennia, it would have to be the aloe Vera. Known for its skin soothing properties, the aloe Vera plant is capable of so much more, especially when consumed.

Also known as medicinal aloe, this plant is believed to have originated somewhere in the region of Sudan, where it has been used for well over 6000 years! It is actually a succulent, or type of cactus that thrives in dry, arid regions with little water or rainfall. The leaves of the aloe Vera plant appear serrated, and require careful harvesting during preparation (although they are not very dangerous). Today, you can grow your own aloe Vera at home, as its utility is second to none. It does not require much work to maintain, making it a casual gardener’s dream, plant.
