Municipal Corporation is also recognized as Agra Nagar Nigam (Hindi:
आगरानगरनिगम ). Agra Municipal Corporation is responsible for the civic
infrastructure and administration of the city of Agra. This Urban Local body is
also known as AMC or ANN. This civic administrative body administers the
city & cleanliness and other public services like public health and parks. The head
of the AMC is the mayor.
A Municipal corporation is responsible for public education, correctional
institutions, libraries, public safety, recreational facilities, sanitation, water
supply, local planning and welfare services and AMC or ANN is achieving goals
with complete Dedication.
Agra Nagar Nigam (ANN) is a local government committed to provide basic
infrastructure facilities including entertainment facilities to the people of the city.
ANN is very well known for the managing the city by involving private sector
participation as well as introduction of innovative mechanism in management to
serve people efficiently. AMC has prepared different plans for improving
services and to nullify gap between services and demands. ANN includes some
of best performing NGO’s and SHG for the welfare of society and civilization.
ANN as a government body get together with private sector to generate more job
opportunities and to take city forward to achieve desired goals.
Agra Nagar Nigam also handles the tax services of Agra like house tax property
tax. One of the significant venture of Agra Nagar Nigam is Agra smart city. The
vision of Agra Smart city is based on the aspirations of its people and the
analytical assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for
the city. The list of citizen suggestions included themes such as “tourist-
friendly”, “memorable”, “livable”, “culturally-vibrant”, “economically-vibrant”,
“protect and celebrate heritage”, “urban mobility”, and “sustainable”.

The Agra Nagar Nigam is considered as one of the largest municipal bodies in
the state of Uttar Pradesh providing civic services to the estimated population of
1,686,976 ( as per 2010 est.) Within its jurisdiction are some of the most
attractive tourist spots of the world including Tajmahal and Sikandra. ANN came
into existence under and Nagar MahapalikaAdhiniyam, 1959 of UP. Since then,
the Municipal Body has always been alive in its constitution and functioning to
the growing needs of citizens. Agra Nagar Nigam (ANN) is a local government

committed to provide basic infrastructure facilities including entertainment
facilities to the people of the city. ANN is very well known for the managing the
city by using private sector participation as well as introduction of innovative
mechanism in management to serve people efficiently. City has prepared
different plans for improving services and to nullify gap between services and
demands. Health Department of ANN takes up the responsibility of management
with Chief Health Officer heading the department whereas Engineering
Department assists in the procurement of the vehicles, equipment and developing
the landfill site, etc. The Health Department has total employee strength of 2299
out of which 2090 (90.9%) are the sanitary workers.
The urban local bodies in the state of Uttar Pradesh are governed by two
important legislation viz. UP Municipal Corporations Adhiniyam, 1959 and UP
Municipalities Act. 1916. These two acts specify the governance framework,
spatial jurisdiction and the functional domain of the urban local bodies.
