Samayik is the way to practice equanimity.It is the most important recipiency of Jain Religion.Jain Philosophy believes that when soul detach itself from impure attributes like passions ,peccancy etc.. And attach to its original attributes like compassion , kindness ,friendliness etc..then one can purify himself and will sooner take its soul towards liberation.Everyday one should practice to be in its original attribute for sometime ,so Samayik is necessary .In this practice ,one should relinquish 18 location of sin by mind ,word and body.While observing this ,the laymen should not indulge himself in any kind of bad deeds nor should ask others to do it .The time span of one Samayik is 48 minutes.During this time ,one can do meditation or prayer ,can listen to sermons ,can do self – study,observe silence ,recite religious scriptures etc..By doing so ,one prevents from accumulating new karmas to soul and existing Karmas are slowly detach from soul.
