Goni Tahir Goni Idris was from Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.
A shuwa-arab in originality.
He memorized the Glorious Qur'an at the age of Nine.
He was amongst the top Nigerian Qur'anic reciters.
Since from childhood, he participated in many national and international Qur'anic competition ( Musabaka ). He represented Nigeria at King Fahad International Qur'anic Competition, Makkah, where he got 1st position in the 2nd category(60 Hizb),making him the second amongst the 4 Nigerians that attained these rank( others being Gwani Umar Al-Bashir, himself, Gwani Sadik Siddik Gusau, and recently Idris Abubakar from Borno). That was in the early 90's.

Until 2013, he was among the panel of judges in the Nigerian National Qur'anic Recitation Competition for years.
In 2010, he was chosen to be among the panel of Judges at King Fahd International Holy Quran Competition, Makkah.
He judged at Kuwait International Holy Quran Award, 2013.
And this this year, 2019, he was chosen to be among the judges at Musabakatu Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Dubai International Holy Qur'an Award.
