Medical schemes are legal entities registered in accordance with the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998, for the function of providing healthcare cover for its members.

In this regard, a medical scheme’s primary intention is to provide healthcare cover (through a non-profit entity) for the purpose of paying healthcare claims.

Is the app meant to be used by medical companies or institutions?

No. The App will be used by independent financial advisors who independently sell, amongst other products, medical scheme cover

In addition, please specify the role of a “medical advisor.”
A medical advisor would typically be a qualified medical professional who is able to give healthcare advice. Agility advisors are not (as indicated below) medical advisors with their role being to guide potential members to identify the most appropriate level of healthcare cover based on their unique healthcare needs. An example would be someone who has a chronic disease. The Agility Advisor is not able to give the member advice on how to manage their disease or health. He / she will, however, be able to guide the member in choosing an appropriate medical scheme option that will provide sufficient cover / benefits for their specific disease.
