It uses XML Information Set for its message format, and relies on application layer protocols, most notably Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), for message negotiation and transmission. This is a tutorial that introduces the readers to the fundamentals of SOAP including its various elements, encoding, and how SOAP is transported.
