PAPI (Personality and Preference Inventory) is a leading personality assessment tool used by HR (Human Resource) professionals and related managers to evaluate individual behavior and work style at all levels.
Personality and Preference Inventory (PAPI)
created by Professor of Industrial Psychology from Massachusetts, America, named Dr. Max Martin Kostick in the early 1960s. The Swedish version was introduced in the early 1980s and this version was introduced in 1997.
The rationale for the design and formulation of PAPI is based on Murray's (1938) research and theory of “needs-press” personality.
PAPI Kostick is a personality test (self report inventory), consisting of 90 pairs of short statements related to work situations,



which involves 20 aspects of personality which are grouped into 7 areas: leadership, work direction, activity, social relations, work style, temperament, and superior-subordinate positions (followership).
In Indonesia it was introduced in 1980 and developed rapidly towards the end of the 1990s. The PAPI test is now used by more than 1000 companies worldwide.
