This app was created in order to aid a soldier or a civilian find the Foward Operating Base or campsite in the event that they are lost and are without a map and/or a reliable compass. It utilizes a KNOWN GPS LOCATION (FOB or your campsite) and your present GPS location in order to calculate the direction and distance to the known location. It is not a substitute for a map and a compass but it will provide a fairly accurate estimation of the direction and distance to the FOB or campsite if a map and a compass is not available and a smartphone is. Distance is calculated in both miles and kilometers and directions are given in degrees. Accuracy depends on the quality of the smartphone and the surrounding environmental conditions (weather conditons, cloudcover, etc.). The present GPS fix location is arrived at by allowing one minute for the smartphone to acquire the necessary GPS satellites in order to calculate the present position as accurately as possible given the quality of the smartphone and its GPS accuracy. It is highly recommended that this app be used with a High Quality Compass and/or a High Quality Compass App in the event that cellphone connectivity and offline maps are not available.
